Dance Aerobic National Participant Profiles - August 2010

Elise Billings

Elise began dancing when she was four years old and started with ballet and jazz.  She only began aerobic dancing last year, when her older sister got her interested.  She got together with a group of friends from school and began learning the moves with help from her teacher, Ms. Spencer.

The group of 6-7 girls train at lunch and after school twice per week.  Elise also plays netball and still does ballet at a local dance school called 'Total Ballet'.  She thinks she will always dance, but isn't sure if it will be her profession.

Ebony Gall

Ebony comes from Nalinga, a country town half way between Shepparton and Benalla.  She began dancing

when she was 8 years old at 'U Can Dance School' where she learned jazz and tap.  One of the best moments in her dancing career was when she won 'Student of the Year' in 2006.  In year 7, Ebony started aerobic dancing.  She had to give up her jazz and top dancing at that point as she had other sporting commitments as well.

Now in year 8, Ebony also plays netball for Dookie United. Dookie is about 20 minutes north east of Shepparton.  She also enjoys tennis and plays for the Dookie Tennis Club in C grade in mixed team.

Ebony enjoys sport education and want to be a paramedic when she grows up.  She also hopes to go to uni in Melbourne.

Jorja Bromley

Jorja was born in Geelong and moved to Bacchus Marsh where she started school and dancing.  She moved to Shepparton 7 years ago with her family and eventually moved to 'U Can Dance School'  Jorja started dancing at the age of five and loved jazz and ballet.  When she was a bit older she began tap and last year started aerobic dancing as well.

In addition to dancing, Jorja plays netball and loves to sing.  She has been in quite a few productions and local performances and has even written some of her own songs and put them on U tube, where she has had lots of people listening to her music.  Her favourite type of music is modern country and she dreams of becoming a singer one day.

BMX NATIONAL CONTENDER - James Honey

(aged 14 of Shepparton)

At just 14 years of age, patient James Honey is ranked 8th in Australia in his age group after the BMX National Titles held in Shepparton this year.  This qualified him to go to the World Titles in July in South Africa, but he was unable to attend due to other commitments.
James grew up in Shepparton and is in year 8 at Shepparton High.  He has been racing for seven years which includes both jumps and racing (speed).  He used to play footie as well but he stopped so he could concentrate on his BMX riding.

James travels around the state and country to compete.  The next step in climbing the BMX ladder is to try and win at the State Titles in both 'A Pro Division', then 'AA Division' for his age class.

His ultimate dream is to make the BMX Olympic team in 2016.  James said, "It will be hard to qualify as you have to do a whole different series to quality."

James wants to do a trade, probably plumbing, and keep riding.  When he turns 18, he can race in the elite Men's classes.  The travelling adds up and anyone interested in sponsoring James in cash or in kind, please phone 0407 218 421.  Bee Happy will be assisting James and encourages other local business to do the same.
